The best beaches near Albufeira

One of the best things about staying in Quinta da Balaia is having several very different beaches just minutes away. You can spend the morning in a quiet cove and the afternoon on a huge stretch of sand. These are our favourites, in order of distance.

1. Santa Eulália Beach

The closest beach to our villas: about 5 minutes by car or 20 minutes on foot. It has a wide stretch of sand, rocks at either end and restaurants right on the beach. A great choice for families and for anyone who likes an easy beach day.

2. Maria Luísa Beach

Right next to Santa Eulália, about 1.7 km from Quinta da Balaia. It is smaller and sheltered by the cliffs, so it is usually calmer. Ideal for a late afternoon or for anyone looking for a quieter spot.

3. Oura Beach

About 2.5 km away, close to the liveliest part of Albufeira. It has plenty of facilities, water sports and restaurants nearby. Good for anyone who enjoys a buzz during the day and a quiet house to come back to at night.

4. Olhos de Água Beach

A former fishing village about 10 minutes away by car. Its name ("eyes of water") comes from the freshwater springs that appear in the rocks at low tide. Expect colourful boats, seafood restaurants and a truly Algarvian feel.

5. Falésia Beach

One of the most photographed beaches in the Algarve, with miles of sand below orange and red cliffs topped with pine trees. It is about 15 minutes away by car and perfect for long walks along the shore.

Tips for your beach days

• In summer, arrive early to find parking near the beach.
• Check the tide times before visiting Olhos de Água or Maria Luísa: low tide reveals the rocks and natural rock pools.
• Bring a parasol and water: in August the midday sun is very strong.
• At the end of the day, head back to your villa's private pool, with no sand and no crowds.
